Thinklogical VelocityKVM-8

The Thinklogical VelocityKVM-8 is a system that enables connecting a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to a remote machine over fiber optic cables. The receiver unit is at the user side and connects to peripherals, while the transmitter unit is on the other side and connects to the computer.

This is a really cool system and I wish I had known it existed earlier. I currently use mine with my SGI Tezro rackmount system, which is too loud to use comfortably in the same room, so I have it in a separate room connected to the VelocityKVM-8.

The product range is vast, so if you're buying these second hand, make sure they have all the features you need (and the correct connectors for optical cables as well).
